A Con Artist is a person who gains another person's Confidence in order to rob them of any personal assets.
The first known usage of the term "confidence man" in English was in 1849; it was used by American press during the trial of William Thompson. Thompson would strike conversations with strangers until he asked if they had the confidence to lend him their watches, whereupon he would walk off with the watch; he was captured when a victim recognized him on the street.
On Beyond BordersEdit
- Hasina ("Harvested") promised poor residents in her neighborhood large sums of money in exchange for their kidney so she could auction them to rich buyers, and later paid them only a fraction or nothing at all.
- Marion Codwell ("The Matchmaker") posed as a friend of Emma Peters's boyfriend to tell her that he was in danger and wanted to reunite with her, then told her that he was murdered and that it was her fault to break her and turn her into a suicide bomber.
