Very little is known about Jeffrey's background, other than he was a British national and became a journalist with BBC News. He also knew how to speak Bengali and Urdu. For the former skill, he was deployed to Dhaka, Bangladesh, to cover the abductions of two American businessmen, David Curry and Robbie Garcia.
